Music Brings Memories

My daughter is part of an amazing choir called One Voice located in Glen Ellyn, Illinois that practices once a week and then goes to senior living facilities and sings for the residents. Last week she came to my mom's place. It was so nice to see all the people come out to listen to the kids. They sing, dance and then spend time after it is over talking with the residents. I can't tell you how amazing it is to see the older people light up talking to the kids and to see the kids interacting with them.

What I realized was some of the music they play is music that brings back memories for many of these people. There is this wonderful song they sing that is one that always gets the people tapping their foot and smiling. You know that it brings them back to a time long ago and makes them happy. Even the music that is newer brings enjoyment to these people in such a magical way.

I know that for many memory care people playing music they loved long ago can bring an amazing calm to them. Just a good thing to remember as we care for our loved ones and sometimes look for ways to bring joy to them day to day.
