All We Can Do Is Love Them Right Now
What a difficult time for all of us but even more so for the elderly. Many of them like my mom are in assisted living or long term care facilities. If they are, they most likely feel lonely and scared. My mom has serious health problems and is currently in heart failure. If this virus comes into her facility she will most likely get it and will not survive. I can't go to her and hug her or hold her hand. I am very lucky that I can see her on my echo device at this time, but she is alone all day except when someone feeds her. She is scared and overwhelmed. She can't walk or use her hands on her own so she is pretty much just watching television.
I am trying to do what I can to make her feel less afraid. I have been telling her funny things and having my kids talk to her. This is such an incredibly difficult time but all I can do is talk to her, tell her I love her and hope she survives this. For those of you with loved ones in nursing homes or assisted living facilities in particular, I know how hard this is and I am thinking about you and your family. Praying for the safety and health of all of us.
